July 2009

We were so excited to find our first egg in the chicken house last night. It was the perfect birthday gift for our resident urban homesteader, Korum. “Rockstar” (our Goldstar hen) delivered on her name, and became our first layer of a beautiful brown egg with the most amazing deep orange yolk. We knew she would be a star!

This post has not been officially approved by Calder, but since I have hijacked the blog, I guess I can post whatever I want (insert maniacal laughter here). We had friends for dinner a few weeks ago, and while I was picking them up from the ferry, Calder picked up little glass stones we had sprinkled throughout the gravel in our driveway and arranged them on our patio table. With the spiral/labyrinth design, I think we may be raising a little hippie, but I thought it looked really pretty nonetheless.

Well, there is really no way to recapture the last two months in this sadly neglected blog… but the mama is going to take over here for a while, as the requests from friends and family to update the site have reached critical mass.

All four Bischoffs are well and happy these days. Korum is hard at work at Teatro ZinZanni where they have recently launched a new show. The boys and I had fun attending the Seattle Pride parade last weekend where Korum participated in the ZinZanni float. He wore a purple tutu and a top hat, and looked pretty cute– too bad I can’t figure out how to get the picture off of my cell phone… you’ll have to use your imaginations.

The boys are also both doing well. Calder finished up the baseball season with a party and a trophy. His coach presented him with a certificate bearing the nickname of “Gabby” and awarding him the title of “best attitude.” He was so proud, and has been telling everyone that it is better to have a good attitude than to make a great catch:)

Calder is looking forward to soccer and swimming in the Fall, and is beside himself to be attending Clowning day camp at ZinZanni in a couple of weeks. We think we have finally found a way to channel some of his zany energy, but we might be creating a monster– we will have to see!

At almost 10 months, Garner is doing new things every day. He is crawling like a champ now, and has begun to make attempts to take steps. He is an adorable baby with the sweetest husky laugh. He eats and enjoys all sorts of foods, and generally seems to find life pretty delightful. We are all feeling very lucky to have him in our family. For the last couple of weeks he has been learning to sleep in his own crib, which has been hard on all of us, but he is starting to adjust and we are all appreciating the improved sleeping arrangements.

The first night the poor little guy cried for an hour and then fell asleep in this yoga position. Thankfully, he has begun to get the hang of it and is going to sleep now fairly quickly.

That’s about it from here. I will try to post holiday weekend photos later in the week. Until then, I hope everyone had a happy 4th of July!
