Arriving at the Johnson Farm with minutes to spare before the pie contest entry deadline.

I started this post way back in September 2009, right when things were starting to get a little bit crazy…

Yesterday was one of our favorite events of the year, the Harvest Fair on Bainbridge Island, put on by Trust for Working Landscapes at the old Johnson Farm. The fair is special because it is rather small (but growing), is all related to farming and nature, the vendors are local, and the whole thing has a very hand-made touch to it. The wildest ride there is a little riding lawn mower with a trailer. Kids line up to peel an apple. After the big Puyallup Fair, where the don’t “nickle-and-dime” you but “ten-and-twenty” you, it’s refreshing to go somewhere where most activites are free and those that aren’t are only 50 cents.

Calder on the big slide

Every year we look forward to meeting up with old friends and it seems like we know at least half of the people there. Now with Calder in Kindergarten, he’s introducing us to even more of our neighbors. Annual highlights are taking a portrait of Calder and Lola under an apple tree by the pond. It’ll get some love in Photoshop and then added to the collection. We also look forward to hanging out with John Flodin for a good part of the day. The Johnson Farm used to be his family’s and it’s great being there with him and hearing funny stories, seeing old photos and meeting his family. We usually see Rivers and the Logue gang, but this year we only saw Eric.

The annual Calder/Lola shoot

This year we had the honor of visiting with our friends (and my boss) Beth and her daughter Kate. Kate is a little charmer and they came all the way from Seattle for the day and kept us company. It was fun to show them around and give them a glimpse into our non-work lives, although I admit, it must have been hard for them because we had to keep stopping to talk to people and I’m not always the best at remembering to introduce strangers.

Catching air

The highlight of the day was Sara’s win in the pie contest for her Green Tomato pie or the “Recession Special” as she called it. Sadly, I never got to try it, but it was beautiful — perfectly golden crust with chartreuse pie filling spilling out the top. Not only did it look great, but it must have tasted delicious too because Sara was awarded a blue ribbon for her work. She’s already scheming for next year…

Isn't it beautiful?

One super-awesome thing I got to do this month was go to Walking with Dinosaurs at Key Arena. My friend John Flodin took me, dad, Rivers and Eric. Dad’s old friend from work, Scott, works with the dinosaurs in the show, so I thought it would be safe and the dinos wouldn’t get me. It was such an awesome show. They were Ha-YUGE! But, they weren’t as big as Key Arena cuz that building is really, really huge.

I got to see my favorite, a Triceratops and a baby and mama Tyranosaurus Rex. And I got to see one dinosaure poop. Plus a volcano!

Wow! A lot of time has passed since I posted anything on my blog! Spwing is just so fun and I spend most of my time outside now, so I never even remember to go on the computer. Dad is helping me catch you up on what we’ve been doing. You won’t even believe how much fun stuff I doned.

Chickies

The chickens got bigger. Fluffy Pie and Blackie died. They were sick. It was pretty sad but we did get more — Blondie, Dottie Dodi, Black Su, and Rock Star. Rock Star was in a movie! We also worked a lot on the coop so they could move out of the dining room which was getting really stinky and dusty:

Garner

Garner got bigger and cuter and funnier and everything:

Nannie started taking care of me and brother one day a week so she had to practice giving him a bottle.

Nannie practiced giving him a bottle. She is watching him one day a week while she is off of work. Mima still watches us two days a week so we get to see both of our grandmas.

T-Ball!

I started T-Ball. It is sooooo fun and I love batting, throwing and playing catcher! My team is the Diamondbacks which is a kind of snake… yikes! We call our team “The D-Backs” because it’s really cool. So far I’ve had 4 games:

Conundrum 2009

Dad’s drum students put on a recital every year called Conundrum. This was the first year I got to stay for the whole concert. I even helped the bands practice the night and morning before the big show. I loved hanging out with the bands:

The other day I went on an adventure to Port Blakely and did a lot of exploring. I want to go again at low tide, to see the buried treasures.

This has been a really wild week.

Last Sunday it snowed and it was so so so fun. When I waked up I had breakfast and then went to the school across the street to go sledding. There was just enough snow! When I was there I saw my friends Lola, Pop and Ivy and we sledded together for 2 hours. Then we all went to my house and had hot cocoa and played with the baby. Then all day we baked different kinds of Christmas cookies. MMMMMM. Yummeh in my tummeh!

Then he just sleeps.

Then the snow never goed away but more came on Thursday and more on Friday. Dad stayed home on Friday and we had Daddy-Dodi Snowfest 2008. We went sledding in the morning. Tried to make a snowman but had a snowball fight instead. Then we walked all the way down our hill to the treehouse cafe for steamed milk with vanilla, whipped cream and chocolate sauce! Then we walked to Walt’s market for milk, bread, ice cream, medicine, and Doritos for a special treat. Then we tied a string to our sled and pulled our groceries all the way up the hill to our house. The walk took over 2 hours! But at least I got vanilla milk and doritos and worked on my muscles.

The concert was so good! Dan wore a bright pink suit and played lots of instruments. He has so many friends! And they’re all so beautiful and talented! They played the best music too. Music from all different cultures and parts of the world and they all shared each other’s traditions and were so happy to be together. We were happy to be there with them and I got to dance, dance, dance!
